nerd alert

So, I'm a GIANT sucker when it comes to taking my kid to pretty much any movie she'd like to see (though I do have SOME boundaries; I fought with all my might against seeing the likes of "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" and "Hotel for Dogs") so when she announced that she wanted to see "Robot Boy" I figured, why not? Now, I'm the first to admit that, while I watched the show as a kid, I wasn't the biggest fan... So I was FAR from excited to go see it. But I gotta say, I was pretty happily surprised. It's just a really nice story line about family, belonging, being different, etc. The animation's pretty. And it's got a bunch of little design tidbits aimed directly at parents that kept me pretty entertained trying to find more (Lenin propoganda in the robot revolution secret hangout??? Yeah, pretty funny.) Honestly, if you haven't seen it yet, go. It's worth it. Image from here.

and back to VV

I'm thinking that before the hubs heads up North for god only knows how long this winter (welcome to Alberta, home of the pipeline widows. We mightTECHNICALLY have men, but you'd never know it. I had one lady in town finally just give up and ask me if I was divorced, since she had NEVER seen my husband... in three years.) I'll be needing a date with myself. I'm thinking a Starbucks, a trip to the bookstore, and a long leisurely stroll through the huge second-hand store in the city... I'm bound and determined to score some blouses and dresses in old-school prints and/or vivid colours. Best part? Because they're so "eighties" this stuff sells for CHEAP. But all you have to do is rip out the should pads, and peel off the buttons and VOILA! Super chic new stuff! Oh, and yeah... in case you're wondering, it was this image below that got me going back down this path. Isn't she just gorgeous? Almost painterly. Image from here.

is it just me or should she have bangs, too?

Hipster reimaginings of Masters of the Universe. Yup. That's right. Because I love you enough to share... Images found here by Adrian Riemann.

other people's weddings: Vincent & Suzanne

Holy hell, you guys! This wedding that I caught over at Vintage Glam rocks my socks! Seriously, I have wanted hair that colour forever and am in constant envy of chicks that have it. Also, the grooms hair. And the 80s (thought it could easily be vintage 50s. A good tip for those of us who could never fit into 50s sizes. They were ripping that shizz off HEAVY in ye ol' 80s) wedding dress. But I think my fave photo is one that was NOT posted over there: the one with the bride grinning like a little maniac dancing the night away. I find a lot of the time with these "cool" couples/photographers, the trend is very much towards the pouty, serious, rock-star face. Which is great. But depressing. You can be cool every other day. It's your wedding for gosh sakes! Frickin' smile! Anyhoo! Take a gander... good stuff, right? Images from Azuree Wiitala's Photostream over on Flickr.
